Making scatter terrain cubes that blend into the Molly Crew board—plus setting up a rainy day project shelf for quick 10-minute hobby sessions.
Rainy Day Projects
Got this cube and another idea for it. Because it tips over due to the face, I’m going to put a weight in it and then put it on a new shelf for rainy day projects.
The idea is for those days where I don’t have tons of time to dig into a real project—I can have a small shelf of things I can make meaningful progress on in just 10 minutes. In-progress projects that won’t weigh on me or constantly be in the back of my mind. Just cool ideas that won’t stress me out.
Adding Weight
Just cut a little slit in the bottom and stuck a washer on the opposite side from the face to stop it from tipping over. Cut the actual material out rather than making a slit so it wouldn’t push out and create a bulge.
Matching the Board
For the paint, I did dry brush stippling and started working in some greens the same way I did the actual board. Then streaking grime with lighter fluid to wipe it off—same process as the board itself.
Perfect Match
Now these blend right into the board like pretty spot on. I’m going to let them dry because they’re still pretty wet, but they’re meant to look like they belong here. Pretty awesome result.

Another day in the office. Uh, I’ve got this cube and I actually I got another idea for it. So, uh, I’m going to put a weight so because it tips over because of the face. I’m going to put a weight in it and then he’s going to go on this this new shelf, this new thing I’m doing for like rainy day projects on those days where maybe I don’t have a ton of time to do like dig into a real project or something like big, I can just going to have like a a small like one of these guys, like a small shelf uh of of things that if I only have 10 minutes to work on, I can make like some meaningful progress on. So, like in progress projects, but not ones that are going to like weigh on me or constantly be in the back of my mind.
Like, this is just a cool idea. I’m gonna shove it. It’s going to be on a shelf that’s not going to stress me out. And I think that’s a cool idea. So, I’ll get a few as those come in like a chance like project hot, but not really in a in a big way.
I think it’s a cool idea. So, I’m just going to I’m going to cut a bottom cut a little slit in this. And then on the opposite side, I’m going to stick a little washer up in it just to stop it from nothing crazy. I just cut I cut the actual material out. I didn’t make a slit and so that way it wouldn’t push it out.
So now I know it’s not going to tip over and there’s no uh no bulge. That’s what she said. Just dry brush stippling. Uh I started working in some greens on this one uh how I did the actual board. Good.
Streaking grime, lighter fluid to wipe it off the same way we did the made the actual board. And so now, so now these blend right into the board like pretty spot on already. I’m going to put I’m going to let these dry because it’s still it’s actually still pretty wet. Uh but it blends right in like it’s meant to be here. Pretty awesome.
