I Finally Painted a Goblin

Very Happy With This Little Guy

He looks good! When you see him at tabletop level, he looks awesome. Hopefully we’ll have 90 more by this time tomorrow.

Finally Found the Right Green

After doing 12 different goblins and different shades of green, I found one I actually like. Over our airbrush workup: Alizarin Green, then Lime Green (doing a lot of the work on top).

Based on that scheme we saw on Instagram, but his was more desaturated—that pale green. I kind of like this vibrant skin tone though. It’s crazy in real life.

The Details

• Totally stole his blue lips—love the lips
• Going to add more violet to reestablish the shadows
• Purple eyes (just dotted in for now)
• Spear still needs love, but everything else is mostly done

The Secret Second Army

As insane as this sounds, I’ve been working on a whole second army this whole time. Some days I couldn’t paint but could build during meetings.

Built a whole Vampire Counts army—50 zombies/skeletons. They’re halflings! Old World Vampire Counts but undead halflings, which is awesome.

The vampire lord/battle standard bearer has a halfling coming up out of the ground behind him—like he’s summoning his banner holder wherever he goes.

Progress Report

About 30 goblins have robes done, need to update skin on 12. Made a lot of progress today. Finally over this crazy block.

Tomorrow I’m done with work at noon, kids are with a babysitter. Time to power through!

What’s Coming

• Still have all the orcs (20 orcs, night goblin heroes, orc on wyvern)
• Vacuum chamber for casting is ready (need silicone and resin)
• Got the wholesale account—frogs coming soon
• Rest of the year: just painting because everything is built

Very happy with this little guy. Is he going to focus for us? Like he looks good. This um I got better a better camera and better lighting right now than when I for some reason the desk light it just doesn’t want to work. But when I put it next to my head, like when you see him at like tabletop level, he looks awesome.

Like very happy with him. So hopefully we’ll have 90 more of these guys by this time tomorrow. After all this time, we have a mostly finished goblin. Um, I finally after doing 12 different goblins uh and different shades of green, I found one that I actually like. So, this is obviously our airbrush workup, but uh alazarin green and then lime green.

Lime green is doing a lot of the work on top of it. And again, this is based on that that scheme we saw on Instagram. Uh his was way more saturated than mine is or excuse me, his is way more desaturated. Like it’s that pale green. Uh, but I kind of like this like vibrant skin tone like this thing.

It’s crazy in real life. I don’t know if it’s really coming through uh with my my cell phone camera and terrible lighting in here, but I did um I totally stole his blue lips. Love the lips. Um I’m going to add in some more violet and kind of reestablish it. You can kind of see it in our shadows and I have this like directly under a very bright light right now.

So, it’s of course making it look a lot more terrible than it hopefully looks in real life. Uh, but we’re going to do the thing with like the purple eyes. Um, right now I just I dotted it in. You can kind of see this one right here. Uh, but it feels good after all this time.

Obviously, uh, I still can’t decide if I want to do true metal metallics or uh, nonmetal metallics. And I got to How did I miss that mold line on that spear? But so the spear is still needs a lot of love, but pretty much everything else uh is done on this guy. I have 30 30 goblins robes are done and about 12 of them I need to go back and update the skin, but I I made a lot of progress today. Feeling good.

Um you can also see all this stuff in the back. So, uh, as insane and ridiculous as this is, I’ve been working on a whole second army this whole time. Um, just cuz like some days I couldn’t paint when I was working, but I could build models like during meetings or like just various things. So, I built a whole second vampire council army. Uh, 50 another actually 25 zombies, like 25 skeletons.

Um, they’re halflings. So, they’re it’s like oldw world vampire counts, but they’re all undead halflings, which is awesome. So, uh, this was the secret project I’m working on. Um, I hit so many snags with the goblins that I don’t know if I’ll actually be able to finish painting them in time. Uh, so here’s a cool little clip I made earlier today of just finishing up the last model for that army.

Almost ready to prime these guys and get them painted. Uh this is the our vampire lord, our general. Uh but he’s also going to be uh the the battle standard bearer, right? And I was trying to like figure out a cool way of doing it cuz we have so much room on these bases now cuz we’re using like the official size bases, but obviously because we’re halflings, they don’t take up the full space. So I have this is a halfling.

Uh he’s undead still. It doesn’t I don’t really like his face. I think his face looks a little bit a little bit derpy. But what I’m thinking is I’m going to cut this hand off and make it look like it’s coming up out of the ground behind him. So like he’s summoning his banner holder from the ground wherever he goes.

So uh going to do that I’ll try to be careful to not cut any of the actual parts I want. So, I’m taking extra off off the body just because that’s how it goes sometimes. Boom. Uh, only tricky thing I wanted to mention here is I just made the flow of that flag follow the flow of the wind from his cape just so it looks like it’s in the same place. And I’ll add some basing texture just up around it to make it look like it’s busting out of the ground.

But I’m finally over this crazy uh block I had about these goblins. Uh I banged through a ton of them today. Uh tomorrow I’m really thinking I might actually be able to finish all of them. I I’ve said that so many times, but I think tomorrow I’ll be able to uh really I I’m done with work tomorrow at like 12:00. So I’ll be able to spend most of the afternoon and my kids are going to be gone.

Uh they’ll be with a babysitter. So, I will be able to power through and get a ton of work done on the goblins. I still have all the orcs. Um, 20 20 orcs and then like the night goblin heroes and then the orc on waiver. So, there is a chance I still actually be able to finish this thing before the end of Orctober, which would be really cool.

Um, I really I want to get two I want to get these two armies done. uh get a table made for old world so I can play old world and like really kind of experience that. Uh the other thing I got the vacuum chamber for the casting and stuff. So I I’m out of actual silicone and and uh and the resin. So I made up a ton of frogs.

Uh I did get the wholesale account. So that’s coming soon. That’s been pretty exciting. There’s a lot of like stuff that’s been happening in the background uh that [snorts] I just didn’t really know how to film and make it look cool. Uh hopefully I get better about like the storytelling aspect cuz I do want to keep it still kind of the blog thing.

But we finally have a goblin that is mostly done that uh I I love how he looks. I think it’s going to look great with a bunch of of them together. Uh like I said about 30 of them the robes are done. I’m going to go through, do all the robes, all the clothing, all the skin, and then the thing about the shields, I definitely still want to sculpt my own shields, but that’ll probably be like a thing for next month. So, I really I plan to finish out the rest of the year on these two armies.

I also have chaos dwarves that are that are ready to go. So, it’s been a very productive month of a lot of boring, tedious work. But now, uh I think I have the rest of the year will just be painting cuz everything that I want to paint is built. And I’ve got some other surprises and other stuff I want to do. Um, I’m getting the War Machine starter set that’s coming in.

Uh, I’m slowly working through these stacks of old boxes and books behind me. You can see over my shoulder, so I’ll finally have like a usable workspace again, which will be really cool. Uh, maybe I’ll get a door on uh on the AC closet that’s also got a ton of Gumbo models that I need to put together. So, uh, I don’t know. Things are going definitely improving.

um finally kicked whatever was going on like last week that made just everything such a struggle. Uh so I’m hoping to kind of get back to it and get back to making like real videos instead of just kind of limping through them like I feel like I have been. So thanks for thanks for sticking with me. Um this one’s a lot of talking, but uh it’s just cuz there was a a ton of experimenting today that I did when I couldn’t record. Just I work from home, but I did a ton of work today.

So that’s some days it’s a ton of time to hobby and some days it’s like actually no time. So it’s like five minutes here of like getting some green in, five minutes there of getting some green in and I found a ton of greens that I hated. So I guess uh I guess I’ll I’ll stop rambling for now. Um I’ll see you tomorrow. Hoping to eventually get a live stream of some sort going.

So kind of like we can do hobby and paint hangouts. It’s kind of vibe.
