Pre-shading the 3D-printed coffee cup energy counter for Monster Friends. Stabbed an old X-Acto blade into the base, hit it with diorama thick mud, and worked a fast zenithal up from the bottom.
Waiting on Monster Friends
Hoping my Monster Friends ships eventually. I think it was supposed to ship Wednesday, but it hasn’t actually shipped yet. Getting excited to play, hopefully it comes next week.
In the meantime I want to make an energy tracker. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, there’s a link in the description. I 3D printed a coffee cup, like a travel sized coffee cup, and I’ve got this counter. The plan is to put the cup on the counter like this.
Building the Base
Step one, diorama effects. This is thick mud, I’m going to paint over it later. Grab the super glue and eyeball the placement. It’s going to look sketchy for a second because I’m using an old X-Acto blade and I want this actually glued into the base. Boom.
As I’m sure many of you are thinking, I ended up having to pin it. Now that thing is in there for good. Base textured the rest of it, going to let this dry.
Back to Black
Coming up from the bottom with weathered wood. Just grabbed a gray. I’m trying to get rid of my paints so I can trim down and try out new ones. I’ve had this one for a while, I loved it, it’s a really good paint, but it’s time for it to go and I’m almost at the bottom of the bottle.
Coming in from the bottom with this because the top is going to be white, and I desperately need to clean this brush out. It’s going to speckle, but that’s okay, we’re just trying to pre-shade. I don’t want to spend a ton of time on this, especially with all the other stuff we’ve got to paint. The lid’s going to be black, but I’ll come back in and actually paint it black later.
Hitting all of it with this gray, especially the bottom. Focusing on the bottom because I’m going to hit the top with an actual white. I wanted the white to be bright, but the bottom’s essentially going to be done, I’m not going to hit it with actual white.
The White Layer
Now coming in with some actual white. There’s some pink to it. I think it’s just the reflection, there’s not actual pink, it’s just reflecting pink off the white. There’s our white done super fast.
