Konflikt '47
Warlord Games' weird-war WWII game, relaunched with a new edition in 2025. It's 1947, Rifts have torn reality open, and the war never ended: powered armour, jump troops, walkers, and monsters, run on an Order Dice system built from Bolt Action.

What is Konflikt ‘47
Konflikt ‘47 is Warlord Games’ alternate-history WWII game. In its world, the first Rift opened at Los Alamos during the Manhattan Project, a second opened when a nuclear bomb fell on Dresden in March 1944, and the knowledge pouring out of them changed the war. It’s now 1947, the fighting never stopped, and every nation is fielding what Warlord calls “heroes, horrors, monsters, and mechs”: powered armour, jump infantry, walking tanks, gravity weapons, and genetically altered things.
There are five factions: the Axis, the United States, the British Commonwealth, the Soviet Bloc, and the Empire of Japan. Each has its own flavour of Rift-tech. The Commonwealth fields automated soldiers, Japan has “Ghost” units that phase through solid matter, and the Axis has Schwerefeld gravity weapons and a lot of monsters.
The game came back with a brand new edition in September 2025, overhauling the models, the rules, and the setting. Warlord says it was written by a team led by Andy Chambers and that it “builds on the mechanics” of Bolt Action: Third Edition, expanding that game’s Order Dice system. So if you know Bolt Action, you already know how a turn works here.
How it plays
- Order Dice. Every unit puts one die in a shared bag. Draw a die, and whoever owns it picks one of their units to act. Nobody knows who’s going next. Each face is an order: Fire, Advance, Run, Ambush, Rally, or Down. Lose units and you put fewer dice in the bag.
- Rift Dice. This is the new part. Rift units get their own dice, with faces for Exhausted, Active, and Surging. While a unit holds an Active die it can spend it on its Rift ability. In the free Field Manual’s learning missions, Fireflies spend one to jump another 12”, and Stahltruppen spend one to shake off all their pins. A Surging die lets you use the ability and keep it for the next turn.
- Pinning. Units that get shot at pile up Pin Markers. Too many and they stop obeying orders, or run.
- Brutal close quarters. In the Field Manual’s intro rules both sides roll at once, and the unit that kills fewer models is wiped out entirely.
- Heroes. Hero units carry a limited stock of special points, like Guts and Luck, to modify or re-roll dice or survive an attack. Each point is used once.
- Platoons. You build a force out of platoons, like the Assault, Heavy Weapons, and Armoured Walker platoons. A game usually runs six to seven turns on a 6 × 4 ft table, and it’s all d6s and inches.
Army lists for every faction are free PDFs, updated as new models come out, so you don’t need a stack of books to play.
How to start
- Get the Starter Set. $152 from Warlord Games’ US store. It’s two forces: 12 plastic US Firefly Airborne Infantry and an M2A5 Linebacker jump walker, against 6 plastic Axis Stahltruppen and a Vogelspinne light walker, with an exclusive resin commander for each side. You also get plastic ruins, an A5 softback rulebook, Order and Rift Dice, a double-sided paper mat, and templates.
- Or pick a side. The United States and Axis starter armies are $176 each. The US box is 12 Fireflies, two Linebackers, and an M5 Stuart with a Tesla cannon. The Axis box is 3 Stahltruppen, 5 Nachtalben, a Vogelspinne, and a walking Panzer IV Ausf. X. Each comes with an exclusive commander and dice. The British Commonwealth and Empire of Japan have $176 starter armies too.
- Get the rules. The hardback rulebook is $64 and comes with a special miniature. There’s also a $32 PDF and a $35 mini-rulebook. Then grab your faction’s free army list from konflikt47.com.
- Or try it free first. The Field Manual is a free get-started guide with six learning missions that teach the rules one piece at a time.
Supplements
The Rift War books carry the story forward, each with timelines, short stories, and scenarios:
- Festung Europa ($48 with an exclusive miniature) is the first. It covers the fight for the Dresden Rift in Europe.
- Invasion Amerika ($48 with a miniature, or a $32 PDF) is the second: the Empire of Japan attacks the US mainland.
Warlord has said the third volume goes on pre-order in November 2026.
