Today, we’re going to work on a quick and easy way to get this rusted up dark metal. What’s up? What’s up, guys? Can you hear me okay? Uh it’s early morning.

It’s October 1st, and you know what that means. I’m going to spill this. Uh it is time to open up this little box I’ve been saving for a while because it is the best month, the best month of all months. It is October, and I have a lot of very cool orcs. Very cool orcs.

Look at them. Look at them. They’re just spilling out everywhere. I got a lot of cool orcs to paint, and I’m bringing back the daily vlogs. We’re doing it every day again.

Welcome to the Hobby Nomicom. Okay, so today we’re painting one of Gazza’s Gormless Goons uh from Gubbins Get. It’s been sitting on these for a while. We’re going to work through the whole crew >> >> uh in October. To start off, getting them primed Pro Acryl black primer.

Usually, I airbrush this, but you can brush it, and you can just glob it on and and watch it dry uh cuz that’s apparently how people paint now. Uh and people are acting like it’s new. But, here we go. All primed up, ready to go. Got the Altoids tin.

Got turquoise deep from Liquitex >> >> and golden quinacridone, I think is how you say that, red. Usually, I airbrush these. Uh but today, we’re using sponges because uh I decided I’m not going to use the airbrush at all on this guy. We’re going to try to do a workup >> >> uh with just with sponges. So again, I’m starting with the red first.

Uh sponging it down. Intentionally, I’m I’m doing this like a zenithal guy would with the airbrush. I’m just hitting all the top edges with that sponge sponge. I got a little bit of water on first before I went into the ink. And now, I’m coming up from the bottom, just holding the model upside down, and doing the same thing I did to get in the shadows with this turquoise deep.

Uh you could use a purple here. You could use uh you could use white and black. Whatever you want to use. But again, this is this is the same exact thing I do with the airbrush. And uh it never really occurred to me uh till recently to try it with the sponges.

So this guy uh this guy’s for the people. There’s no airbrush, so everybody can do this. And really, I want to stick to kind of this is the first model I’ve used the sponges on this much. Usually, I use these makeup sponges to remove oil painting. But here, that’s the full process.

You can see we had these these volumetric undertones already. So, now I’m coming in Vallejo I think this is dark earth, but just a a neutral brown and I’m hitting anything that is going to be metal cuz it’s going to be rusted yucky metal or leather with this. So, pretty much everything but the skin. And if you get some on the skin, it’s okay. I’m using just an airbrush holder to pinch it so I can get a little bit more precise with it.

Now, this is Scale Color Permanent Orange, but really you just need any any bright primary orange. Not that orange is is a primary color, but I mean just like when you think of a bright orange, any orange will do. And now, I’m hitting this on all the metal. What I’m doing here, this is just adding texture by using the sponge on all the metals, especially this flat surface, cuz this cap is actually a metal cap and the sword blade, too. >> >> We’re adding texture and creating our own texture on the model without having to try too hard.

So, now this is the first time we’re using a brush except for when we primed. This is of course Tenebrous Grey from AK. This is the only only paint I would say has to be this color cuz AK paints are just so good. But now, I’m just dry brushing. I’m dry brushing over all of that.

All that What did I just use? All that sponge work. And what this is doing is now this is going to catch all the raised areas on the metal and it’s almost like a a reverse of what dry brushing usually does. It’s going to make everything dark again. And this will tell us exactly where we need to go back in and paint in our metal.

Really transformative on the sword. It’s going to catch all those hard edges and and make it look more like a like a little dangerous sword again. It’s going to turn all of our metals back into like a black like a almost like a black orc. Big big nasty guy. Here you go.

This looks great. Like I’m going to come in and I’m going to do a lot more work on this tomorrow because like I said, that the daily vlog is back. You’re watching this on October 2nd cuz I got smart this time. I’m going to post the previous day’s work the day after so I’m not rushed trying to edit and and actually hobby all in the same day. And you can see a couple spots where the primer didn’t stick in.

I’m going to fix those later with a wash. >> >> But this is this is where we’re at already. No real talent, no airbrushing, no actual real painting yet. And you could if you were doing like a batch army, that’s just some pretty sick nasty orc armor. But we’re going to come in.

This is that same orange from earlier. But now I’ve just pretty substantially watered it down. It’s pretty thin and it’s also it’s going to dry a lot less vibrant than it looks going on. So I it’s a wash. Do do wash things with it.

I am trying to be a little bit more controlled and this was actually a little bit a little bit too wet and I I fixed that I just by drying it off on a paper towel. It’s just out of frame. But going in, hitting in all these areas, especially the chain links cuz I I want this orange to be deep in the recesses cuz this is going to get covered up again cuz I’m actually I’m going to try to paint a little bit brighter, shinier metal. It’s not going to all just be this black. I want I want this model itself to be pretty bright, pretty cartoony, almost like a like a second or third edition Warhammer vibes, not really grimdark vibes.

We’re going to we’re going to mix in some grimdark. It’s going to be it’s going to be a fun little project. And here you can see this is after I fixed the consistency. It’s it’s almost like a glaze. So it’s just going to catch and it’s going to sit in all those recesses and it’s going to look like great rust.

It’s going to look like this. So here we go. This is after this is like a maybe a 30 45-minute in total painting session. Uh, no airbrush, but we still have all of that volumetric lighting. We have the purple shadows.

We have the red highlights. Leather’s in a really good spot already. Uh, I just didn’t do that snow brush over it. Uh, we have a very very good spot for both our skin and to really pimp our metal out. So, I’ll see you tomorrow.

Thanks for watching.
