Failed attempt at NMM tutorial

Lost footage

So I recorded a whole video on the non-metal metallic on this guy — on the actual NMM — and I’ve lost it. I don’t know where it went. It’s been a day. Very much a day. And I don’t have another model to redo the NMM on.

But I painted. I kept the hobby alive. I kept the video streak alive.

Sketching the highlights anyway

I just painted lighter colors of gray mixed with white, over and over again, where the light from my light source hits. Still a little bit more to do — I’ve got to glaze in some more and punch it up.

I’m grabbing some more white and mixing it in over here on my palette. I’m intentionally drying the palette out — I don’t want it to get moldy like the old one did.

Sometimes it’s all you can do to get a couple of brush strokes in. I got a lot of brush strokes in, though. A whole hour of painting. Kind of sucks I lost the footage.

This is what it looks like — we’re in the final stretch. I’m putting the foundations in for the non-metal metallic right here, coming up to the top, trying to make it a cheddout kind of vibe. Just picking out the very, very edges of it and keeping it in the black. I want it to look very shiny, very fancy.

I’m just sketching right now — the funnest part. I’ll go back in and glaze it over. That’s pretty much the whole model.

Time to be done

I’ve grown to really enjoy painting this guy. I’ll probably pick up one for myself, because this one’s a commission and I think I’d enjoy painting it again as a lessons-learned thing. Not anytime soon, but in the future.

Still need to do the shield — I decided I’m going to airbrush it because I’m ready for this model to be done. I have to get other ones painted next week, and this guy’s just got to be done. I think I have a hundred hours into this guy at this point, and most of it was on the purple and the white, just redoing it over and over again because I wasn’t happy with it.

Now it’s just time to be done with it. Time to go to bed. I’ll paint the face tomorrow, airbrush the shield, finish up the weapon. See you then.
