Discovering Castle Grief

While I was on the couch dying, I fell deep into Castle Grief’s stuff—specifically Calarrath. I’ve pretty much acquired everything on their page. It’s affordable, very cool, and exactly my aesthetic. I’ve been looking for the perfect solo tabletop RPG system, and I think this is it. I’ve reached out to Castle Grief about print copies and I need to join the Discord.

I want to make a leather journal to hold all the Calarrath supplements—they’re these 5.5 by 8.5 booklets—with a laser engraved cover for my campaign journal.

Laser Engraving Experiment

I pulled the hex map from the Calarrath PDF into Photoshop, removed the white background, and exported it as a PNG for LightBurn. Set up the laser engraver in the garage with two fans and the door open on a concrete floor. After three passes on a scrap piece from the dollar store, the hex map is coming through. Needs a slower laser speed next time, but we’re getting somewhere.

Where are those cool miniatures from? Smash Bash (smashbash.org) is the most asked question. Also check out Ramshackle Miniatures (UK-based, takes a bit to ship to the US) and Andrew May / Meridian Miniatures. There’s a ton of people making their own stuff on Instagram too.

What happened to Kingdom Death? Still love it. I recorded the King’s Man fight but haven’t posted it—Sophia and Clamstra both died, and the settlement got abandoned. It was three hours of bad luck condensed into one rough session. But I’ve been working on a dedicated second channel with a fully produced, fully edited presentation style instead of just a top-down camera on a board game. Planning to start a fresh settlement for it, hoping to drop the first episode in April.

Going to Adepticon? Not this year—I’m sick as hell. Maybe next year, two years from now for sure.
