How to Wash Bright Red

Hey, what’s up? The battle report is here. It’s underway, but it’s not going to be able to drop until tomorrow just because of editing. Sorry about that. I thought I’d be able to edit today, but it got away from me.

I almost caught my backyard on fire. Had to deal with that. But now, it’s time to do some hobbying. Okay, let’s get a little bit of actual painting done here because the battle report is not going to be it’s not going to finish exporting and uploading in time tonight. So, I got some known oil.

I’m a little bit scared here. I don’t You know I don’t think about it. Known oil is not the right wash to use here. Try that again. Okay, Army Painter mid-brown quick shade wash.

We’re going to come in with this. I think the known oil, the black will make it look like we don’t want to we don’t want to hurt Not hurt, I don’t know. We don’t want to desaturate. It’s probably the correct word. That red where airbrush work out, but we definitely need to get a wash on here.

One because there’s so many of them that it’s not It’s not going to be like a wash is going to make all the details pop in a way that’s actually doable. So, we’re going to test it. Test it here. And let’s just see what we get. I might need to do a darker wash.

We’ll see. I really I wanted to use as light of a wash as I can get away with that’ll still bring these details out. And I haven’t I used to use these quick shade washes a lot. They’re like the only Army Painter product I used until I I found out about the speed paints. So, just being careful here.

Especially around this white. >> And just making sure we get all these cracks cuz there’s a ton of cracks and panel lines in this dusk armor that would otherwise be a total pain to paint. And see this is like I might still I’m definitely going to try the dark tone. But I think this will work. Okay, and I’m finishing this one up and really the whole The whole thing with washes, especially over air bright airbrush work, is you can see like right in here I I there’s a little bit too much paint.

And that’s okay. I did it right here on purpose so I could show you. You come in and you just clean your brush out and you can use it to suck up and wick away that extra paint. I just have a paper towel here just a little bit out of frame. And just dry and dry it off on that paper towel and then you can come back in and just wick it off so that there’s not a huge glob of paint.

And you can see, hopefully, just how much that wash adds over over the normal. So these two I just washed and this one is dry now. This one’s still a little wet. So you can see we’ve kept all the vibrance and the brightness of our airbrush red. Let me get you a little bit closer.

You know, but now because of that brown wash and we didn’t use a black one, it’s in all the cracks. It picks out the detail. Uh but it’s not it didn’t take away any of our of our big of our like bright red. You know, we’re still very bright red. Like we’re not at the our highlights I just added a little bit more depth to the highlight.

We’re still at that brightest point we’re still just as bright as we are on the unwashed model. So, there you go. That’s your tip for today. Don’t wash red with black. Use brown.
