What is FIRE! Modern Combat
FIRE! Modern Combat is “a miniatures wargame set in modern warfare,” played at squad level. It’s published by SEN Games, a new Spanish company, and FIRE! is its flagship game. The original idea is Ricardo Ponz’s, and he wrote and designed it with Aleix Gordo Hostau.
SEN’s pitch is that you can recreate “any battle after the Second World War” with any faction. The rulebook’s lists run from American SEALs to revolutionary militias, with 16 to pick from, and the regular armies use the same squad make-up and weapons they carry for real.
It was funded on Kickstarter in early 2025, and SEN finished shipping the backer packages in November 2025. The hardcover rulebook is 144 full-colour pages, out in Spanish, English, German, and French.
How it plays
- Small squads. SEN says games take under an hour with about twelve models a side. The Chaos Bunker review puts a normal game at 500 to 600 points, which is 8 to 15 models per side on a 4x4 ft table. Models are 28-32mm on 25mm bases, you measure in centimetres, and you roll d10s.
- Command Points run the turn. At the start of each turn you get CP based on your troops’ training: 5 for Militiamen, 6 for Professional, 7 for Elite. A living Main Commander adds 2 and each Secondary Commander adds 1. Casualties take CP away, and green troops lose it slower than veterans.
- Orders cost CP. Ordering one model inside command range is 1 CP. Giving orders out of range, or once all your commanders are down, costs more. You can order a group, too.
- Action and reaction. A turn is a string of Combat Scenes. Each one starts with an Initiative roll, the winner spends CP on one action, and then both players can spend CP to react to each other. An action priority roll (3d10 for an action or Overwatch, 2d10 for a reaction) sets the order everything resolves in. When both sides are out of CP, the turn ends.
- Cover matters. Terrain is light, medium, or heavy cover, from hedges and oil drums up to bunkers, and it takes away from the shooter’s roll. Range, movement, and the target’s experience all modify the shot too.
- Scenario play. The core book has seven basic scenarios, and SEN posts more for free.
How to start
- Get the Starter Set. The FIRE! Modern Combat Starter Set is $150.95. You get the rulebook, a US Rangers squad (9 minis), a Middle East Insurgents squad (12 minis), cardboard scenery (houses, walls, barriers, and boxes), and six orange d10s. The minis are white metal.
- Or just the rulebook. The hardcover rulebook is $32.95 in Spanish, German, or French, and $45.95 in English.
- Use the ready-made lists. SEN’s free Ready-to-Play Squads PDF has five 500-point squads built only from the Starter Set models, so you can skip list building and get playing.
- Grab the free resources. The resources page has a quick reference sheet, a weapon table, squad sheets, tokens, errata, and FAQs. It also has extra squad lists for Germany, China, Italy, and Australia, and scenarios like Mogadishu Mile and a Second Battle of Ramadi mission.
The core book covers the US, UK, France, and Spain, plus generic Irregulars. SEN also sells single blisters, like a Spanish Legion sniper team and a Lt. Sean McKey special character.
