The better red wash solution—mixing Slaughter Red speed paint with Army Painter Quick Shade medium gives deeper detail pickout without killing vibrance.
Transcript
Hey everybody, another quick one tonight in our washing red experiments.
Slaughter Red plus Army Painter Quick Shade medium. Starting with about 50/50—two drops each. Ice King wanted me to give this a shot.
The Battle Report Curse
I’m finally—after almost 250 days of this—starting to get a better vision. The battle report video is flat out cursed. I’ve now recorded three different battles, several hours of playing, recording, and editing, and there’s always something wrong with every single one. I’m just going to give up on it because I want to go in a different direction anyway. If you’re waiting for that, I’m sorry.
The Mix
Two drops medium to one part Slaughter Red speed paint. This is a very deep red. We’re going to hit this carefully like we usually do and see what happens. Starting on the back.
The Verdict
This is actually a pretty amazing effect. This is probably the route I’m going for sure. Let it dry and we’ll do a full comparison.
Here’s the comparison: this one is the speed paint wash, this one next to it is the brown wash from yesterday. The speed paint wash is the way to go for sure.
All the details we want picked out have been picked out. It didn’t change our reds—if anything, it made them more vibrant. Even deeper in the cracks than the brown wash. It’s pulling out the detail even better.
We have a new hack and another use for speed paints:
Recipe: 2 parts Army Painter Quick Shade medium (wash mixing medium) + 1 part Slaughter Red speed paint.
What’s Next
I’ve got a pretty sick idea about the next chapter of The Hobbinomicon coming soon. With these commissions, the thinking part of what to do is out of it—it’s just finishing commissions mode. But after that, things are going to look different.
Thanks for watching. I’ll see you tomorrow where I have some cool stuff to show you. Bye.
