Highlighting red

Another quick one tonight. Uh, vermilion. This was our our airbrushed highlight. The highest point. Got a paper towel here. Not going to use it palette. I’m going to take this vermillion. I’m going to put it right here. Just just a little bit on the wet palette. I’m going to take the vanilla white that we used on the robes. Uh, because I don’t I don’t want to mix in like a cool white or a bright brilliant white here. because that would introduce some blues into the red and make a cold red, which we don’t want to do. Now, very soft, very wide bristled brush. Going to mix this together. You got to be careful because if you’re not careful, if you mix white and red, you’re going to get pink. And you definitely don’t want pink. Okay, I’m going to work this onto the paper towel until there’s literally almost nothing at all on the brush. Like you can see there’s barely anything coming off. Going to come in and I’m going to dry brush. We’re just dry brushing that final highlight again now that we washed it. And because there’s literally there’s almost no paint at all on here. And these brush brush uh brush what am I trying to say? The hair of the brush is so fine and soft and flexible that it’s barely gonna leave any paint behind and it’s going to start looking like we edge highlighted this thing and took the time to hit all the hard edges with an edge highlight when really we’re just dry brushing. So, I got to be really careful. And I might actually I probably will come in to actually have edge highlight around the scales that we just did last night because I don’t want to ruin it. But this is going to make all these hard edges pop and it’s going to make it look like our red is actually done and and not just airbrushed. And on the camera just because of all the lighting, I need to figure out a way to not wash all my my footage out. But there’s a lot more going on on this model than it seems. And you can you can kind of see you see all of our airbrush work up here on the back where more of it’s in shadow. And this dry brushing will really kind of come into play more here. Cuz you got to be careful cuz if you if you do this paint if you mix this paint wrong and you put too much white in or you don’t have the right red to start with, you could just be highlighting your your red with pink. And you definitely do not want to do that. So, you have to be really careful mixing red with white. And you can hopefully kind of see this thing coming to life where it looks literally like we like we Man, I’m struggling. It’s late. I’m very tired. I got to start making videos when my brain is functioning. Uh, it looks like we spent the time to edge highlight it when in reality there’s no effing way we’re going to edge highlight all the edges on these little infantry guys. When we get to the warcasters and like important solos, we definitely will do that triing, but these guys absolutely not. Ain’t no way, no how. So, I’ll be back. It takes a long time to work this up. I’ll be back in a second. I guess it was taking too long. So, I’ve actually I’ve worked in some of this OSL or some of this this orange fluorescent orange I’m going to be using for OSL. And you can see I’m really getting almost all of it off cuz you don’t you can really mess yourself up if you’re not careful with this. And I’m making sure it’s always from the same direction. Uh I’m almost done. You know, I uh with this part, I am going to come back in and there’s a few select points that I will actually edge highlight and it’ll add to the effect. But you can see we’re where one we’re brightening brightening everything back up from the wash. And this isn’t this is not just going crazy with a dry brush. This model will not look dry brushed when I’m done. It won’t have, you won’t see the brush strokes. It won’t have that that normal brush stroke giveaway. And that’s because there’s barely any paint on here. We’re slowly building it up over dozens and dozens of passes. This brush is a very soft. So, let’s see. Let’s let’s get the camera to actually focus for us. So now you can see we’re picking out and it’s almost like we’ve blended in the highlights on the red and we we’re going to go back in and we’re going to add we’re definitely going to do some more brush work on the red. But now you can see how we’ve we’ve brought all that back in. Like here’s this is one that we haven’t dry brushed yet. So see it just has the wash lines in it versus this one. It’s back. This we’ve truly brought it back up to the bright red before the wash came in and the highlights. This camera wants to work with me here. Like especially on the shoulders and the hard edges. It works very well with the airbrush work. Looks very good. And it looks better in person as always. And again, just for reference, this is one that’s just washed. Okay. So, now we’ll take our brush and um I’m just because we’re brushing this on and it’s not a dry brush, we’re not going to get crazy. Uh I’m just going to take this vermillion right here. That was our actual final highlight. And I’m just going to get a just a small touch of that orange, the fluorescent orange. Like it’s so little it’s probably not even doing anything because we don’t want the model to be orange. We want the model to stay red. Maybe just a little bit more. But again, you have to be careful highlighting red with orange because then it’s going to make it look orange and it’s going to make it not look red. And this is this is a very bright red, almost pink. So, we’re working it. I’ve just worked it down the side of the belly of the brush. And now I’m going to be very careful here. And I’m just going to come in on my edges by these scales. And we’ll do the hard or we’ll do the uh edge highlight. I keep forgetting the name of it. We’ll do the edge highlight the hard way. so that we don’t dry brush orange onto our scales. And I I’m pretty sure I’m going to I’ll send a picture of this to the Ice King. I’m pretty sure he wants like the red to be this dark crimson red. And I don’t think he wants like super bright orange highlights on it. So, I’m not going too too crazy because I mean, you could pick all this out. And, you know, there’s not a lot of contrast on the armor pieces pieces just yet. And we’re going to add some white to the armor, too. And so, here on these these raised parts here, I’m just like actually kind of blending out this better, like actual full highlights on it. And I’m going to get carried away and I’m going to starting this whole thing. But the I don’t know what it is about this color, but it’s hard to get my camera to focus on it, too. Uh just being careful here. I’m going to come in brighten these up. And I’ll probably I’ll definitely be painting these gems a certain certain color, but I’m very sick of looking at this red. And the red is looking so unfinished to me. So, I just want to get a little bit more here. And I need to check in with the ice cube again before I get too carried away on it cuz I think he wants it like this. But if I can get this this thing to focus. Let’s see what can I put behind this to make it focus for us. And our very professionally produced So you can see the highlights. I’m going to drop my brush. It’s a very bright red. Very I don’t know. This is a force here. Uh maybe the back back of this. I don’t know why I can’t get the camera close enough to force it. Like it’ll focus on my hand. You know, there are there are edge highlights on this thing. We got to cut in a couple more areas, but I think the fact of the matter is a lot of this is just going to be this red. We’re cut in the face. And I think cutting in the sword and cutting in parts of the uh cutting in the sword and the face and the skin, you know, that’ll break up some of the red. But a lot of this model is just going to be red, I think. And that’s okay. Uh, come in here. Hit hit that very very raised edge right there. Come in and hit these lines. Definitely hit uh these tops of these nuts or whatever they are, bolts. and this edge highlight down the back here. Edge highlight there and there. These are the big areas where people are going to look for it, you know. Uh but I think I think the red is done now and it’s not going to focus and it’s going to be a terrible video and the red’s going to look unfinished just because of the other colors we have to do. We need to cut it in, but it’s looking really good. Uh, even if you can’t tell, you just got to believe me. So, next time we’ll we’ll actually we’re getting pretty close to just finishing the model. Probably do one more video that’s like just the just the head and one that’s just the sword and then a third video of finishing the model. And then once I have this model done as the completed test model, uh, it’ll be a lot easier to just blast through the rest because I’ll do like all the airbrushing. I’ll do all the non-metal metallics, all the fabrics, you know, all at once and it’ll it’ll be very fast and a whole army done. So, see you then. Thanks.
