Comparing chainmail painting steps—is the extra work worth it at tabletop distance? Plus nature shots as terrain inspiration for your next build.

Transcript

Good morning. Definitely go back and do the wash—that was the worst chainmail tutorial ever.

The Chainmail Comparison

Here’s a proper comparison so you can make the decision on if it’s worth it. Two models got the full treatment: Broadsword Silver speed paint, silver dry brush, oil wash, and another dry brush of silver on top. Four steps total. Two other models just got a dry brush over Broadsword Silver—two steps. And one tiny gentleman is just straight Broadsword Silver, nothing else.

Did I play myself? There is a subtle variation, and the full-treatment models definitely look better. But what you’re seeing on camera is basically tabletop distance. Nobody’s going to know this was one speed paint versus four steps on those dudes. So I think I played myself a little.

Relic Blade Progress

I’ve been filing down the old Relic Blade metals. They were an absolute joy to put together—very little mold lines on them. Very excited to get some Relic Blade games in eventually.

The armor’s done on the Normans. I’m glad I went with the wash because it does look good, but the comparison really makes you wonder if the extra steps were worth it when you’re just trying to get on the tabletop, not win a competition.

Terrain Inspiration

I’ve been taking shots of nature outside during my travels, thinking it’d make cool terrain inspiration. So the rest of this video is all those shots cut together. Hope you find something cool and useful for your next build.
